In response to a viral epidemic, brilliant scientist Dr. Susan Tyler (Mira Sorvino) genetically engineers a new species of insect to kill off the cockroaches that are spreading the disease.
This new species is designed to die out after one generation, but three years later the emergence of giant, predatory insects in the subways of New York suggest that the species has taken on a life of it's own - one that is ending the lives of others.
Susan and her husband Dr. Peter Mann (Jeremy Northam) are called in to investigate and hopefully combat nature's latest mutation, fittest with terrifying consequences.
