Onedin Line: Series 5

Initially in Series 5 challenges confront James Onedin. Political upheaval in South America has ruined his project to build an anchorage and the bank is trying to confiscate his fleet in payment of his debts. Plus, Letty Gaunt refuses to become his wife. The arrival of the millionaire Daniel Fogarty from Australia, sees his luck turn. James is able to do Daniel a well placed favour and then the man who threw him out of Port Baines is glad to welcome him back - with his ships. Adding to his luck, the emigrants continue to travel and the tides are turning with Letty - perhaps a marriage is not too far off...Elizabeth marries again becoming Lady Fogarty and finally, the wife of her son's father. Her son, William is shocked to discover his parentage - but is causing a controversy of his own as he and his cousin Charlotte's love blossoms. Captain Baines and James resolve their differences - although at one point it seems that James is taking an inexcusable risk with his captain's life. Onedin Line's appeal lies in its solid ballast of historical authenticity and extensive location filming featuring beautiful ships combined with powerful drama and engaging characters.
