Following the Oscar-winning Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, director George Roy Hill (Slaughterhouse-Five) again combined with Robert Redford to make this highly entertaining adventure classic film about the romance of aviation.
Redford plays Waldo Pepper, a former WWI pilot who takes up extreme stunt flying for a living. An accident involving a young stunt lady, Mary Beth (Susan Sarandon - Thelma and Louise), forces Pepper to cancel his show, but he finds work as a stunt pilot in a Hollywood film depicting the air battles of the Great War. Famous German air ace Ernst Kessler (Bo Brundin - Rich Man, Poor Man) has also been hired, and Waldo and Kessler begin dog fighting in deadly earnest when recreating a famous wartime duel. Stunning cinematography and a sterling performance from the roguish Redford make this one of the great aerial adventure films.
