The Shadow Riders is best-selling American writer Louis L'Amour's timeless western tale of two brothers Mac a Yankee (Tom Selleck) and Dal a rebel (Sam Elliott) who return home to Texas at the close of the Civil War to rebuild the family ranch only to discover that their sisters and Dal's spirited sweetheart Kate (Katherine Ross) have been kidnapped by a band of renegades who are on a rampage path towards Mexico. In 1983 President Ronald Reagan presented Louis L'Amour with the Congressional Gold Medal making him the first American novelist to receive the medal. At the time he received the award L'Amour had written 87 books and sold over 190 million copies.
